Hi everyone,

My name is Joanne and I am brand new to your group. I wanted to introduce myself and say hi and give you my facts and hope you can teach me and help me. I have loved astrology all my life and am now really starting to study Here are my facts...

"my ascendant is 1 o m arrow."

I was born on November 18th 1963 at 4:53 am in Reno Nevada I had my chart done when I was 12 and have not really had one done since.... I do know that I am a double scorpio having both the sun and my ascendant in this powerful sign. i dont know what to do with all my "Scorpioness" (for lack of a better word) I need to use all this energy for good instead of evil ( a family joke) my ascendant is 1 o m arrow. I am not sure how to put that to be understandable...

(Scorpio)

I would like insight to my life and to where I may be heading finally I feel that my road is smoothing out and I am happy except for one thing and that is I seem to attract the wrong type of partner what sign is best?

I am so obsessive and stubborn maybe there isn't one?

Well I hope you will read this and help me and let me see some parts of me that maybe I can't as of yet see.

Peace,

Joanne

Dear Joanne:

While Mars may rule both Sun and Ascendant, I do not find the problem here to be with having both placements in Scorpio. A careful analysis of Mars' (as ruler of Scorpio) placement might reveal a little bit more about what this chart requires (from the native) in order to find fulfillment. The list of issues involving Mars includes:

1. The intensity of this chart might be better defined by the square from Pluto (14 Virgo, 11th cusp) to the Mars (17 Sagittarius 22, 2nd house).

2. Mars' last application before the birth was to Saturn, (17 Aquarius 06, 4th house) and makes no further aspects before leaving the sign. (Void in Course)

3. The Moon's last application was to Mars, and has no further aspects after the birth until leaving the sign in which it is situated, with Mars, Venus and Mercury, all in Sagittarius. (Void in Course)

Joanne's chart is ruled by the Warrior Archetype

Mars makes on her life, asking her to maintain the Spartan ideal of discipline, in spite of "cushy" temptations to the opposite: she's an admitted and recovering drug addict, struggling and "fighting," as indicated by her chart.y her chart.

A further consideration is given to the ruler of the Mars, Jupiter in Aries, at 10, in the 6th. This Jupiter is mutually received by Mars, and is a powerfully placed planet, elevating the Sagittarius placements accordingly. What it confers is kind of swaggering, gambling sort of confidence, a love of loud laughter and horseplay, and a sporting style, an "outdoorsy" personality, you might say. But, the square from Pluto and the Voids in Course by both Moon and Mars present special adaptation to understand and arrive at the "bottom line" of fulfillment.

It is as though the gods were asking Joanne to "stand ready," and thus a kind of Military style of living would be appropriate. Working for the police department, training with the Marines, dispatching the Sheriff's Department, driving an ambulance, or as an attendant or doctor in the hospital emergency room, all places where the "gates of hell" are close by, all within hours of one bloody wound or another, as described by these potent aspects.

The "Void" status of Moon and Mars poses a special problem also, in that the native is likely to "wander aimlessly" not arriving at her own goal and definition of her life's goal, but at the one that arrives without her active direction. This literally means a kind of drifting, sifting, restless, and jockeying all the time, going hither and yon before bumping into something interesting or being bumped into by something considerably more painful.

The "romance" department (5th cusp) is governed by this Jupiter, and in the 6th, suggests that dating relationships begin at work. Also, the Pars Veneris (groovy smooth, fun and flirtation Arabic Part of "touch me here") is conjoined the Moon in Sagittarius, so "fun, finger food" and party style conversation around food, (In Greek the word, "Stoma" means bag, and they were fond of pointing out that the Moon was constantly filling and emptying, like a bag).

Unless you are working on a feeling level to understand the archetypes instead of becoming them, you are bound to crash and burn in relationships. Venus' conjunction to Mars points to a beautiful facade, but a brazen style of sexuality, a daring sort of vixen with a brash temperament (Lie Down This Won't Hurt A Bit, Buddy) and needs a discipline in order to become graceful, and Venus-like, instead of Biting, Spartan and daring, like Mars/Jupiter.

I suggest taking up a Martian activity like Aikido, dueling, horseback riding, competitive sports or wilderness training to best find an expression for this Wild Hare, and put it into a scene where adaptation is really most likely. This is not a shrinking violet, demure in lace and perfume sort of aspect. This is a brash and hearty style of Venus, elbow-wrestling all the way to the sleeping bag under the stars, not necessarily the eyelet-coverelet and fur-trimmed spread in Victoria's Secret.

Mars is best "besieged" by Venus and Moon, trapping him in a cushion of loveliness, but the square from Pluto demands Service To The Community in the forms already described. This is the capable nurse in wartime situations, the support staff at the Sherriff's who can understand what the most urgent need for the situation might call for. You are capable of organizing a task force to find a killer, rapist or criminal. You might be called upon to handle firearms, tools for cutting metal (the ambulance driver efforts in triage, where the use of special forceful, tools cut away at the metal surrounding the victim of a car crash) or become an expert in forensics.

The more expression you can find for the Mars/Pluto, in particular since the Mars was last in aspect to Saturn, the better. There is a killing, violent instinct marked by all three of these planets in their particular formation, thank the gods cushioned by the Moon and Venus, but nevertheless affected by that potent square of Pluto. If you were to "become" one of these archetypes, the wounds would go against you. It is by creating a vent for their expression in your professional choices, that you enable their expression, and their "energy" flows past you in the physical, and towards those to whom you might offer a service of mercy. (The Moon/Venus "beseigement")

The challenge is to locate the Hero within yourself (while helping those in the "war zone" with their wounds) and to be able to carry out difficult tasks under great adversity. Then you will be better capable of finding a hero who most suits your style, since you have digested the big order that the gods have for you.

Choice reading for your astrological background would be "The Astrology of Fate," by Liz Greene. She describes the difference between being conscious of the archetype and allowing its flow through in life, in contrast to the unconscious "I am the god" where the danger is best described as ignorance.

No one has the charmed life, not even Celine Dion or some other sweet Venus type. We all have an obligation to become conscious. Our culture supports the Celine Dion type a little better because that is the level of our collective maturity: Singing, Beautiful Barbie Dolls. That places the culture's maturity at a maximum age of 12.

As astrologers, we know life is much more interesting down beneath the surface. Be careful of overly sentimentalizing the need for relationship, companionship and sex. That's what we Americans tend to do most often. Define your own style, and take that as a barometer. As Pluto comes to Venus in the next year, a completely reversed experience to the ones you have known will come your way. You won't have to manipulate, cajole or take the "upper hand" at all. If you haven't done your Inner Work, you might not want what you get. If you have, you might discover other secrets to fulfillment than the stereotypes that the Movie of the Week cherishes so much.

Hope that offers some direction with your chart. I'd call you a Sagittarius first, with these preponderances.

Dear CF,

Just to tell you thank you and to let you know how very correct you are. I am in the middle of a HUGE reconstruction of my insides and finally working on my inner self.

Also the strangest part is that I am a recovering addict. While you didn't state this, the behavior you described that would be painful is just this addictive, selfish behavior.

Selfless helping service work to others is the only real hope I've ever had of recovery. (I've got a year) and the best part is the fact that I was going to college to major in Forensics. But I didn't finish (planets collide) Thank you so much for your insight...

Joanne
