It
takes imagination to predict this kind of horror.
(Robert Zoller came the closest.)
I
will not be listed as one of the astrologers who
predicted any part of these events. In an examination
of the writings of late 2000, I did not find any
predicitions likely to link with the holocaust of
New York City. I, like anyone else, was taken entirely
by surprise, entirely gripped and upset by these
events as all of must have grieved, even around
the world.
However,
in going back to essays of late 2000 and early 2001,
I do single out the essential astrology, to see
where a vision might sharpen in preparation for
the next onslaught. The stellar events which may
sharpen the astrologer's focus on the symbolic trends
at work tied all our individual destinies together
in one vast event. However, if we cannot well undertake
the mythological background of this work of astrology,
we are deracinated from the sources of the symbol.
Venus
and War
The
Meso-Americans (ancient cultures of Mexico and South
American continent) used the retrograde of Venus
to begin their "Flowery Wars," their
attacks on nearby "enemies," other tribes
competing for similar geographical dominance. The
ancient Chaldeans, who celebrated the song cycles
(a method of memorization for ancient peoples)
of the mythos of Iannana and Ereshkigal traditions,
also used the retrograde of Venus to foretell situations
of conflict.
Since
we are "moderns" we need proof in front
of our eyes, the "irrefutable" concrete
evidence to coincide with the so-called messages
of the stars. But, we must also consider that
not all which appears to our eyes is indeed the
entire message!! Or certainly we would know
the whereabouts of the league of terrorists ourselves
and that is presuming too much. We have only the
tradition of the symbols to follow, and these are
sometimes as wispy as the quatrains of Michel of
Our Lady (Notre Dame, i.e., Nostradamus).
Mercury's
Hermetic "Cap" and the new Secret War
I
hope that we may share a "thinking cap"
of invisibility here, and understand that not all
the news is ours to behold, now that a secret war
is being waged. Mercury is known in Greek as "Hermes,"
and perhaps now it will become clear what is meant
by a "hermetically sealed" container.
Mercury is the symbol, not only of lies and deceit,
but also of secrets. He and Pluto shared this in
common. In the mythology, both could share the "Cap
of Invisibility." As astrologers we may look
to the dance between Mercury and Pluto, watching
for Mercury's squares, watching the stations of
Mercury, and watching his "partnership"
(though he'll never tell!) with the Underworld god
of hell.
Did
the Astrologer not predict the event at all?
I
was curious to see whether some of my essays had
ever contained any language which might have "covered"
the events of this week, events to which practically
no self-respecting astrologer would admit to "foreseeing,"
their eventualities are so horrible. Yet,
clients and friends ask, "Did the astrologer
foresee this?"
I
sent the essay Power Wars: When The Magic
Kilowatt Meets the Kilobyte (below) to
about 50 people on my private list, and did not
send it to All_astrology because for the most part,
it was not "astrological." But,
I have colored the text that is astrological, at
the conclusion of this piece. Scroll down
to read the astrological content. You will notice
that I pinned the awful truth of Saturn's retrograde
against Pluto upon the energy crisis.
What
I know about the aspects of September 2001 is that
the tensions are high, that many are affected by
a shift in relationships, jobs and communities.
I also found that the aspects told a story of conflict,
crisis and power struggles.
I
will also refer readers to another essay written in
November of 2000, before the Supreme Court
decided on which of the twin candidates would attain
to the presidency. I posted about the candidates
fighting for prominence on 11/14/00, the following:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/all_astrology/message/2824
from
which I extracted:
"Since
Aries would be the sign on their fourth cusps, we
may, with this important retrograde (Venus), expect
some news about George Senior the father, since
that house would expectedly concern the forebears.
More importantly, the 4th cusp is the place where
the "Sun" went to die, and in the Aztec
tradition, where Venus ritually "killed"
the Sun prior to his rising once more.
Not a foretelling of the death of the Father, but
more perhaps about something "changing"
in the root cellar of their charts; something buried
coming to life once more. Perhaps some family
secret withheld from all, but certainly confided
to the father. A friend of mine wondered about
the pain of George Seniors loss to Bill Clinton
eight years ago."
In
a tone much friendlier to the Bush family than I
have ever possessed before, I now wonder if what
I was observing in this "4th house of endings"
observation was about the "resuscitation"
of the terrorists (Mars-ruled, no doubt) in the
family connection; meaning that the Bush family
inherits this crisis, one foretold by a War-mongering
Venus, in the sign of the Warrior.
The
question is whether, in the first 100 days of the
Bush presidency, George W. received any intelligence
about the question of terrorism. We know from the
current events that several of the terrorist were
indeed under FBI surveillance. Was the president
notified of their presence in the US, in particular,
the state of Florida, governed by "twin"
(figuratively and metaphorically speaking) his sibling.

Power
Wars: "When The Magic Kilowatt Meets the Kilobyte"
Well,
as we can see, the Millenium does begin with a crisis,
and this is the one. Wishing you happy holidays,
though it's much to late to count! What we can count
is that for now we are reading each other's emails,
and for friendship's sake, maintaining communication.
However,
various real threats against these flowing communications
exist. And in the spirit of a far more "Saturn"
view of reality, consider these as you send me the
jokes that seem to proliferate from every corner.
1.
Romanian hackers have recently completely disabled
a major messaging service, in use since before the
Internet became popular. IRC is gone! (read: cnet.com
and search, Hacker hits IRC network Undernet with
denial-of-service attack; By Will Knight; Special
to CNET News.com; January 9, 2001, 3:30 p.m. PT;
http://news.cnet.com/news/0_1005_201_4423794_0.html?tag=st.cn.sr.ne.1)
The
hackers use simple email techniques, much like the
jokes that stream the world, and because they are
able to send hundreds per second, they can "crash"
a system. These systems are too expensive to replace!!
IRC is scrambling, but disabled, and may not be
able to be revived. "Doctors" are studying
the problem.
This
whole idea makes me jittery. More Saturn-like. So,
I'd like to make a friendly suggestion in the name
of restraint, even on our parts, though our contributions
are far less by a million parts, than the enemies
of the Internet. Please leave me OFF the jokes list
altogether. I laugh out loud at the good ones, yes.
I enjoy them because they come from friends, and
I do read them. But, they can sometimes contain
a hundred or so addresses, and I notice the list
gets longer as they go out.
What
is most inconsiderate is that everyone can see who
else is on the list. That permits me (or anyone
else) to "harvest" these, and who knows
now how many have harvested my email from these
traveling jokesters. By harvesting, I can now recreate
very easily what has happened in Romania (were I
a bug-eyed hacker) because the secret behind that
hack is the taking over of thousands of computers
with a virus, which of course is spread quickly
through the email. And fresh new email addresses
are what is needed to foment new disruptions. These
viruses, now proliferated, send the same email from
thousands of computers, and attack an address or
service according to the design of the hacker, and
infected private computer users don't even know
it.
2.
California's energy crisis is caused by market-driven
profiteering and the unmitigated disaster of "going
private," de-regulating of the power and utility
structures. This is in the hands of the governor
and I cannot make heads or tails of what the State
of California must do in order to reverse this,
but you have your power bills and you know just
what it takes to turn the lights on.
This
includes the computer, which by God we are now so
attached to for the friendships and connections,
the business opportunities and even livelihoods
created in this "New Economy" that we
are vitally connected to a measured kilowatt hour
as much as a kilobyte.
What
this says to me is that we have a valuable, threatened
resource: The Internet. And, that the style of sharing
jokes is going to become less fashionable as the
ISPs complain about the load of email that is going
through "The Cloud." And who knows whether
it's coming from Romania hackers, or Philippine
college grads who have nothing in their night life
but a key board, a case of beer and a penchant for
"power." So, please use my email address
with some discretion. The "bcc" means
Blind Carbon Copy. If you must include my name on
the list, please conceal it in this category of
addressing. If you got this and don't see your name
at the top of the address list, it is because
you are included as a blind carbon copy.
Lastly,
most of these jokes arrive by sixes and sevens in
my box. I get them from everywhere. And I see my
name on all these little lists which with each iteration,
seems to expand. I find my name deeper and deeper
in the bottoms of these long FW: FW: and it's too,
too many emails OF THE SAME TEXT over and over.
These go out to thousands of ISP's and their iterations
are increasing.
We
may as well start taking lessons from the Romanians,
since by now we are mildly shadowing them. Soon
enough, with the proliferations of long lists, of
popular jokes and pictures of the president and
the like we will clog our own system, using our
own power and no one will understand what has happened...
it's just the beginning of these system wars.
In
astrology we have various indications that these
will become an increasing problem.
Mars
retrogrades in Jupiter's sign Sagittarius on May
11. He moves from 29 degrees to around 15 by mid-July.
During June, Mercury goes retrograde at 29 Gemini,
and takes the usual three weeks to travel about
10 degrees backward. Mercury takes fully six weeks
to recover all the degrees of the retrograde, and
for that entire time, the most unusual opposition
(for its duration) plagues us. We'll come to think
of it, I am sure, as the summer of no air conditioning.
All during this time, the two tweakiest planets
in our charts are buzzing each other from over their
respective fences, and guess who's in the background?
Pluto in Sagittarius, Saturn in Gemini. Power struggles.
And these two majors face off in July and don't
quit until after September. Saturn goes retrograde
at 12 Gemini in September and the battle just gets
more entrenched.
Gemini:
writings, short term stuff, quick notes.
Sagittarius:
long distance, systems of Law, home of Jupiter,
ruler of the Internet.
Let's
show some respect. (from an email to my private
list in January 2001.)
